Tarrant Reappointed at Helm of the Brisbane Capitals

The Board of Brisbane Basketball Inc. has named Geoff Tarrant as the head coach of the Brisbane Capitals QBL men’s program for another season.

After two years at the helm of the program taking the team to the grand final in 2013 and the semi-final in 2014, Tarrant was the logical choice to continue leading the way on the quest for the Club’s first QBL men’s championship since 2002.

“I am very excited to be back and to be given the opportunity to build on the work we have done over the past two seasons.”

“Two years ago, a very unique group of people came together and started something special within the Caps QBL program that hopefully culminates in a championship. That has always been our goal and our mission now is to complete the journey that began back in 2013,” he added.

Tarrant, in 2013 took over the top job where the season prior the team won only 4 games. He along with his brother Mick brought discipline, professionalism and flair to the team that saw them rocket up the QBL ladder and surprise most teams with their style of play.

However, the fairy-tale finish didn’t eventuate, losing to the Rockhampton Rockets in the grand final and revenge was firmly on his mind coming into 2014.

Season 2014 presented the ugly side of sport and after a strong start to the year that saw the Capitals on top of the QBL ladder after 5 games, injury and illness intervened, but Tarrant never used it as an excuse for the semi-final loss against Mackay.

“We had a serious bout of illness with one of our key players, a broken leg to another and our import just couldn’t find his feet and was released, plus we had two key players come in late but the team never gave up, nor did they make excuses.

“They just kept working hard and remained focussed on our goals,” he concluded.

The Brisbane Capitals men’s QBL program will hold official trials on Saturday 17 January, 2015 from 2pm at Auchenflower Basketball Stadium, Dixon Street.
