Caps contniue to build with Home Grown Talent

The Brisbane Capitals QBL Women continue to build their program around its home grown talent with local product Molly Windsor returning in 2013.

The 6’1” forward who has played all her junior basketball at Brisbane has seen increased opportunity at the QBL level over the past couple of seasons and feels that under the current coaching staff will see further developments in her game.

“I really think the high calibre of coaching staff at BBI will help me continue to improve and develop my game and assist me becoming a tougher competitor in the league. I am still very young, especially for a big, and really want to soak up as much as I can” Windsor said.

Having been known as versatile big who can play through the small forward to centre spot if required. Last year she served under the tutelage of Emma McDonald (nee Randall) and Rachel Warren and believes that experience will prove valuable coming into the 2013 season.

“I definitely learned a great deal off both of these incredibly experienced athletes, I found it so valuable for the improvement of my game to be able to work with them on a weekly basis… and being able to work with these girls 1 on 1.”

Windsor who has the Royal Blue running through the veins understands what it is to be a Capital and having not only played, but also coached and mentored within Brisbane Basketball there was no other alternative even when other clubs showed interest in her.

The 18-year-old will now get a chance to put her years of experience plus what she has learnt last year to the test with the Caps as 2013 presents more opportunity. Whilst this may be something of a challenge to most, the very determined forward has also shown her abilities at the National stage representing Queensland will relish the opportunity.

The resilience of the young forward will most definitely be put to the test when having to stand opposite the likes of Payne, Francis and Langford who are known WNBL stars, but it is something she feels she will has the mindset to overcome.

“Basketball is as much a physical as it is mental game and confidence has always been a big thing for me…so this year a big focus of mine is going to positivity and leaving mistakes … in the past.”

With Brisbane now having signed local products Davis, Steindl and Windsor with the addition of Heidi Freeburn the Caps are well on their way to building a culture of success for many years to come.
