THE CAPITALS:

The Hudor Brisbane Men’s Capitals currently sit 4th on the ladder following three rounds of the QBL. After extending their series lead over the Bundaberg Bulls 6-3 (since 2012), in the opening round of the QBL, the Caps faced three consecutive away games including the grueling Northern Road trip v Townsville and Cairns. Our Caps now return to NAB Stadium with a 3 – 1 record to take on cross town rivals South West Metro in a local derby match-up that is poised for an electric confrontation.

ROUND 4 v South West Metro (Currently 8th, 2-1 record):

In the 2015 Season, South West Metro finished 11th with a 5 – 12 record; averaging 89.7ppg for, but allowing 97.5ppg against. Although early days, this season South West average 82.7ppg for and 80.7ppg against and are led by Ryan Vines (17.3ppg), Adelaide 36ers’ Brendan Teys (15.0ppg) and Brisbane’s own Jarred Bairstow (15.0ppg).

Series Record: Since 2012, the Caps have played the Pirates on five (5) occasions, and lead the series 3 - 2; including victories in the last two contests. Head to head during this period, the Caps own a defensive margin over the Pirates of +14.2pts.

Last Meeting: The Caps last played the Pirates in Rd 8, 2015 in an away game; the Caps took the win 95 – 85.

NORTHERN ROAD TRIP:

The Caps were greeted by a capacity crowd and wonderful vibe in Townsville stadium last Friday night. With scores close after the first quarter (22-18), the intensity lifted in the second with the Caps holding a 37-33 lead with four minutes to go in the half. A late first half surge on the back of some defensive errors by the Caps led to three consecutive 3-point baskets from the Heat, who took an 11pt margin (39-50) into the half along with a handy dose of momentum, which they did not relinquish for the rest of the game; Brisbane losing 101 – 77. With that victory, Townsville took their fourth consecutive win of the season to sit atop the league ladder. Your Caps then journeyed to Cairns to play the Marlins on the Saturday evening. Although the Caps offensive and defensive performance was better than the night before, they were still tentative from the perimeter allowing Cairns to established control of the game early. Although a close scoring affair for the first three quarters, whenever the Caps hit the lead, the Marlins would come back with multiple scores. Brisbane finally wrestled away control of the game from the home team, and through sustained pressure defence, took the lead with 5 minutes to go never to trail in the game again; taking the last quarter 34-18, and the game 94-81.

WELCOME BACK DUSTY!

Last weekend, the Caps welcomed the return of our very own legend, Dusty Rychart, in his very first appearance for the year after returning to Australia from Minnesota. This Saturday’s game is the first opportunity for our supporters, members and fans to welcome a fit and refreshed Dusty back on our home court in 2016 and leading the way for the might Caps.

HOME SWEET HOME at the DOME:

The Hudor Brisbane Men’s Capitals extended their home court regular and postseason win streak to 11 after Round 1’s clash v the Bundaberg Bulls. The Caps last lost at NAB Stadium in Round 1 of the 2015 Season against northern powerhouse – Cairns Marlins – in a tight 73-72 contest. This year, Brisbane returned the favor to the Marlins taking a hard fought 94-81 away win to conclude last weekend’s road trip double-header.

SBL Men: The Brisbane Capitals SBL Men’s team (3rd, 3-0 record) are also at home this weekend, welcoming the Caboolture Suns (9th, 1-2 record) to NAB Stadium. Tipoff is scheduled for 4pm
