Information

The Broadmeadows Basketball Association is the primary provider of basketball in the north-western suburbs of Melbourne.

We have men’s and women’s teams competing in the Australian Basketball Association (ABA) Big V Competition, Championship and Youth League divisions. This is the second highest level of basketball played in Australia, second only to the National Basketball League (NBL). Our ABA teams compete as the Hume City Broncos, and regularly play home games at "The Corral". If you enjoy watching basketball you must come along and see the Broncos in action.

We are strongly represented at all levels of the inter-association representative competition played across Victoria. Our junior boys and girls compete as the Broadmeadows Broncos in the Victorian Championship, Metropolitan, Eastern Qualifying and North-West competitions run by the VMJBL.

The Broadmeadows Basketball Association (BBA) originated at the Devon Road, OakPark, Scout Hall in 1978 and became incorporated on 20 December 1983. The Association was initially created to provide opportunities for the youth of the area to play basketball.

Since this time Broadmeadows Basketball Association has taken advantage of the basketball boom in Australia to position itself as one of the major basketball powers in Melbourne. With its headquarters relocated in 1986 to the Dimboola Road Stadium in the City of Hume, Broadmeadows Basketball is ideally located near to public transport services and Melbourne Airport. The Association has access to other quality venues in close proximity to the main stadium which are used for both our representative and domestic competitions.

Our Junior Domestic competition (played on Saturdays) provides for players from Under 8 to Under 18. This strong competition is the feeder for our representative, VJBL and Big V teams. We are proud to have many ex-Broadmeadows juniors now competing at these higher levels. Our domestic competitions attract teams from the local area (Broadmeadows, Glenroy, Strathmore, Dallas, Gladstone Park, and Westmeadows) as well as the more northern suburbs of Greenvale, Craigieburn and Roxburgh Park.

Broadmeadows Basketball has established a reputation for being well organised, professional and attuned to the directions in which the sport must head in order for this growth and development to be sustained.

Our other programs include:
  • Senior Domestic
  • Coaching Clinics Referee Development courses
  • Junior Clinics

On request we visit local schools, colleges and shopping centres etc. to teach and promote the skills and rewards of playing Basketball.

The Broadmeadows Basketball Association is affiliated with Basketball Victoria and the Australian Basketball Association.

The business of the B.B.A. is overseen by a Board of Management who are elected each year at the Annual General Meeting.
