Flames move closer to history (Friday night wrap)

The Rockingham Flames are one step closer to making club history after taking down the Wanneroo Wolves 77-66 in the first leg of their best of three women's State Basketball League semi-finals.

The Flames made use of their home court advantage, leading at the end of every quarter in the crucial first game.

Wanneroo rallied in the fourth the close the gap to as little as five with just over a minute to go, but it was too little too late.

Rockingham was led to victory by star centre Emma Cannon who lived up to all expectations with a massive 33 points and 19 rebounds.

Cannon had a great supporting cast from Kaye Tucker with 17 points, ten rebounds and four assists and Talisia Bourne who stepped up to the challenge with a solid 11 points and three assists.

The Wolves were led by a strong performance from Shani Amos with 15 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Nikita-Lee Martin was solid in support or the Wolves with 11 points and four rebounds.

The Flames used their inside presence to dominate across the board with 13 more rebounds, 17 more second chance points and ten more points in the paint.

Wanneroo will welcome a return to home next weekend after shooting just 37% from the field and eight per cent from the three point line away from home.

The Wolves will be desperate their second straight semi-final exit, while the Flames will be confident of moving into the clubs feat ever grand final.
