Eagles Runner Up MVP Wilson hopes to retain Opals spot

Australian Central Eagles' Runner Up Most Valuable Player for the 2009 State Basketball League season, Carly Wilson is looking to boost her chances of retaining her spot in the Opals line up after signing with Canberra Capitals in the WNBL .  At Canberra Wilson will play under current Australian Opals Coach, Carrie Graf which she hopes will improve her chances of representing Australia at next year's world cahmpionships. 
"I had another offer to go to Europe this year, but when the offer came up from Canberra it just seemed like it was going to be the best thing for me,"  Wilson said. 
Wilson played eight games for the Eagles in 2009 and was part of a late run that saw the Eagles win nine of the last 12 games, just missing out on a finals berth.   The late run included wins in a double header Round 16 over SBL Grand Finalists Willetton Tigers and Mandurah Magic.   Carly had an oustanding saeason with the Eagles averaging over 18 points a game which was the highest for the team. 
Kelsey Maffin was the 2009 MVP for the Australian Central Eagles women's team. Maffin recruited from the United States at the beginning of the year played in 21 of a possible 22 games scoreing 272 points at an average of 13 points per game.   The Community Newspapers' Coaches Award presented by WSBL Head Coach Anthony Fletcher went to Liz Zezan who played in all 22 games this season scoring 217 points at just under 10 points per game. 
At the Basketball Western Australia awards recently held Faye Muller from the Eagles won the top rebounder award averaging 14.8 rebounds per game over the 11 games she played this season. 

Coach Fletcher was pleased with the teams results in the later half of the season and is looking forward to an even better performance next season.
