Suns Women Ink Duo for 2010

The Kalamunda Eastern Suns Women’s SBL team are looking to take one step further in 2010 and are excited to announce the first pieces to assist their potential success.

Just a fortnight after announcing Craig Mansfield will take the reins of the ladies from Lesmurdie, the Suns can confirm they have secured Perth Lynx Representative Emma Lobb, to compliment the underestimated Chantel Foord who’s no nonsense style of play has made her a valuable commodity within SBL ranks.

Lobb (18) has had a busy 12 months on the court continuing her rise within the WA basketball scene notching some impressive individual accolades along the way.

After debuting in the SBL competition with Wanneroo in 2007 Lobb made the switch to Kalamunda in 2008 and hasn’t looked back since. During her two years based with the hills club, Lobb has posted improved numbers during each season increasing her 2008 output of 6.3pts & 4.7rebs to 7.9pts & 7.6rebs during her 23 appearances in 2009.

In addition to competing in the state league Lobb was the lone Western Australian selected to represent Australia at the FIBA Oceania Championships in Saipan, she completed her rookie season with the Perth Lynx in the WNBL and donned the black and gold of WA Metro at the Under 20 National Championships held in Townsville.

Speaking on his inside target coach Mansfield said “Emma is a key player in our program and I’m extremely excited to be coaching her at the Suns for another WSBL season. She has a great work ethic and in the past 12 months has gained international experience representing Australia to accompany time in the WNBL with the Lynx. Emma runs the floor well and is agile for her height with the ability to finish on both sides of her body. Looking forward I’m confident Emma will have a breakout season in 2010 where she will be a candidate in the leagues most improved player award."

Now to Foord who at 22 is one of the senior members within the squad and returns for her third season after crossing from the Redbacks to compete with the Suns in their inaugural SBL season.

During her three year SBL career Chantel has continued to fly under the radar of opposing teams with her numbers rising from 6.7pts & 5.2rebs during 2008 to 8.6pts & 5.8rebs each outing with her all effort play a trademark.

Speaking on his returning member coach Mansfield said “Re-signing Chantel was an extremely high priority upon being appointed. Her work ethic, enthusiasm and passion is infectious setting a good example for our younger squad members. She is extremely versatile at the defensive end and moves well without the ball whilst having perimeter range in offence. Most importantly she loves a tough contest and won’t shy away in physical or high pressure situations. This hardened mentality will be a signature of our team next year.”
