Clarke signs with Tigers for two

The Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers have re-appointed Championship winning Head Coach Glenn Clarke for the 2010 & 2011 WSBL Seasons.

In his rookie season Clarke led the Tigers to their fifth WSBL Championship in the historic last Grand Final played at Perry Lakes Stadium. The Tigers defeated the Mandurah Magic in front of the highest WSBL Grand Final crowd in league history, 73-63.

Speaking to SBL.asn.au, Clarke was thrilled to be coming back. "I am excited that Willetton has re-signed me for another two years and I am looking at back to back championships for the club" he said.

"2009 season was a season of positives and injuries but more positive due to winning the Championship" said Clarke on the success of 2009.

Speaking about the 2010 Season, Clarke was upbeat about the clubs chances.

"We will look to keep the same crew as last year with the inclusion of Go for 2&5 Perth Lynx Captain Mellissa Marsh. Jenifer Mckenzie will also be back next year after a knee reconstruction during the 2009 Season and will be well sort after as our backup point guard."

The Tigers will however be losing impressive young guns Tarryn Priestly, Jasmine Hooper and 2009 WSBL Most Improved Player Courtney Hargreaves.

"Courtney Hargreaves, Jasmine Hooper and Tarryn Priestly won't be there next year due to leaving for college in the USA."

However Clarke was confident that the experience of 2009 will have a positive effect on the other youngsters in the club.

"I am hoping the younger girls experience from the 2009 season pays off and we provide ourselves a more intense game style as we did in 2009."

Clarke also led the WA Under 20 Women to a bronze medal at the Australian Junior Championships in Townsville and will again be taking the team in 2010 at the Championships in Gawler, South Australia.

The Tigers now have their 2010 Coaching staff set with Shayne Hampel set to lead the Men's team.

The Tigers are currently taking applications for a WSBL Assistant Coach. Interested applicants should contact Marg Richardson on 0421 823 833 or email marg.r@bigpond.net.au to obtain more details. Applications close Friday 16 October at 5:00pm
