Senators Women begin Preseason

The Senators girls have gone from no preseason to a professional preseason in the space of 12 months. Such is the change in the air brought about by incoming Senators WSBL coach, Vlad Alava. The 2010 squad hit their paces for their first training session last Sunday, a gruelling 8km beach run from Scarborough Beach to Floreat Beach and return.

Whilst it is not uncommon for professional AFL outfits to be hitting the track around mid to late October, it is certainly a new experience for the Stirling girls. Much was spoken about the change in culture and heavy emphasis on skill and fitness development by the new regime and it seems that every spoken word is turning into reality.

“It’s the norm back home. WNBL athletes are fit at this time of the season and when the season dropped off into ABA after finals, they were naturally already fit and so were the rest of the group because we did the hard yards early. Haven’t got any WNBL athletes just yet but the formula stays the same.” Alava explained.

The girls are on a 4 day a week preseason program, with fitness sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends.

Any interested athletes are encouraged to contact the Club as preseason training is encompassed into the WSBL/Div 1 trial process.
