Cougars appoint McIntyre for 2010 Womens Team

Cockburn Basketball Association has appointed Fleur McIntyre as Head Coach of their Women’s program for the 2010 SBL Season.

McIntyre is a player life member with the Cougars, having played over 200 WSBL games with the club.

In a statement released today the club said "Fleur will bring a wealth of basketball playing and coaching experience to the team, having many years of coaching WABL and mentoring some of the players in the SBL team."

McIntrye spoke about the significance for her in taking on the role.

"I am very excited to have an opportunity to coach the Cougar Women, particularly since the club has played a significant role in my life."

"I am also really looking forward to moving into a senior coaching role."

McIntyre faces the task of returning the Cougars to SBL Finals after they missed out by a game in 2009.

"The first plan is to try and make finals in 2010." said McIntyre.

"I will be looking to blend youth with experience and just instil some of my own touches on the program to help it keep progressing and hopefully push for a finals spot."

It is those touches to the program that the Cougars and McIntyre hope will, in the future, deliver their first Grand Final appearance in the 21 year history of the SBL.

The Cougars have not yet announced any 2010 player signings which does not faze McIntyre as she prepares for 2010.

"No recruiting has commenced yet, I'm looking forward to working with some of the talented young players we have down at the club."

"I will also be looking to secure some veteran experience which will be critical in a push for the 2010 finals."

McIntyre has not only had extensive SBL experience, she has also previously been an Assistant Coach to the Perth Lynx under former Head Coach Paul O'Brien.

Cockburn Basketball Association welcomes her on Board and wishes her and the team the best of luck in the 2010 WSBL season.
