Stirling Senators sign Samantha Duff

In another boost to their playing roster, Stirling Senators have signed former Perth Lynx player Samantha Duff for the 2010 SBL season.

Duff, who played with the Lynx in season 2005/06, returns to the WSBL with the Senators after spending the last 12 months playing in Europe in Scotland. During her time in the north of Europe, Duff impressed in the competition, subsequently being named in a select All-Star Team that competed in an International tournament in Denmark.

The versatile positional player is looking forward to playing with the Senators and making a significant impact on the competition in the upcoming season. She sighted the new approach at Stirling as pivotal to her decision in signing with the club.

“After hearing Vlad Alava’s goals and direction for the upcoming WSBL season, I'm excited to join Stirling and contribute in anyway possible. I believe that the professional direction that is being shown will lead not only to short-term success but also to sustained success in the long term.”

“Having been apart of the Perth Lynx from 2005/2006, I decided to take the opportunity to compete in the Scottish national basketball League in 08/09. From this I gained selection to a select all star team that competed in an international tournament in Denmark. I look forward to bringing this newfound experience to the Senators for the upcoming WSBL season.”

For his part, Coach Vlad Alava was very complimentary about the latest addition to his squad.

“Sam is a player that comes with a lot of positive raps from people whose opinions I respect in WA. While I have not seen her play, sourcing out opinions, and hearing what people say about her, I didn’t hesitate to sign her up as soon as I got word that she was keen to return. Sam definitely strengthens our roster and gives us depth and experience, and international experience at that.”

Pressed for comment on his side’s chances for the 2010 season, Alava said the team goal remained the same- climb off the bottom of the ladder and see how far they can excel. Alava did, however, concede that the Senators were in need of “a post player or two.”
