The Australian Central Eagles will have a massive and imposing front court this season with Perth Wildcats’ Sam Harris joining fellow 7 footer Tom Jervis.

With seven-foot centres a rare commodity in the SBL, the signing of Harris gives the team two and will make the Eagles incredibly tough to match up. Having the option of rotating Harris and Jervis through the centre, but also playing one as a forward to have them on court together, looms as a tantalising option for Eagles’ Head Coach, Damien Chalk.

Harris a 221cm, 123kg 25-year-old became the tallest man in the National Basketball League (NBL)when in October 2009 he was brought into the Perth Wildcats squad to replace the injured Paul Rogers.

He is delighted to join the Eagles and to hopefully start by having an impact defensively. "As with the Wildcats, defensively is where I can be of most advantage because of my height. I can change shots and that sort of thing around the basket,” Harris said.

"Mainly I came to Perth because Perth Wildcats’ Rob Beveridge and Mark Radford had coached me before, so the development opportunity was the main thing. Now that I am joining the Eagles for the 2010 Season I can stay in Perth and continue my development with Rob and Mark whilst combining it with playing for the Eagles.”

Eagles’ Head Coach Damien Chalk said “We will be looking at playing Sam and Tom together to form a formidable wall on the defensive end whilst creating difficult match ups for other teams at the offensive end.”
