Buccs sign first import
GERALDTON Sun City Plumbing Buccaneers have acquired the services of Philadelphia-born combo guard Ryan Zamroz.
Big shooter Zamroz, 22, is second in the all-time three-point standings for The Masters College, Southern California.
Standing at 1.93m tall, he was also the seventh all-time points gatherer with 1862.
Zamroz arrived with his wife, Stacy Nanninga, on Tuesday.
He is raring to go for the State season, which gets underway when the Buccs play a double header away, against South West Slammers on March 13 and Mandurah Magic the next day.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity to play. I’ve really enjoyed my interaction with guys so far,” he said.
“Hopefully I can bring some good basketball components to the team as well as some leadership.”
Coach Ray Evans said he was eager to land the American after watching videos of him on YouTube.
“I knew instantly he was the type of player we needed,” said Evans. “He’s got a lot of energy. He can carry the ball well and he can work effectively off screens.”
Evans hopes Zamroz is cleared in time for a pre-season competition over the forthcoming long weekend. “He’s going to fill a huge gap in the team as he can play anywhere,” Evans.
