Week One PowerPlayer of the Week

Each week thanks to PowerPlay Sports one Women’s and one Men’s SBL player is awarded the SBL PowerPlayer of the week award. The winner receives a $50 voucher for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco.

The Week One WSBL winner is Carli Boyanich from the Kalamunda Eastern Suns who returned after an injury plagued 2009 to lead her team to an impressive 96-90 win over the Glasscraft Wolves. Boyanich finished with 25 points, 17 rebounds and 3 assists while shooting 47% from the floor and converting 8/10 free throws to guide her team over the line.

Last season’s league MVP, Brooke Hiddlestone put up impressive numbers in her sides 45-33 win over the Cougars. The Redbacks star finished with 18 points and 18 rebounds, showing that she has picked up right where she left off in 2009.

Others in consideration were Kaye Tucker (Flames), Kate Fielding (Slammers), Courtney Byrnes (Lightning), Sheraton Flood (Senators), Samantha Norwood (Eagles), Melissa Marsh (Tigers), Lyndal Gardner (Hawks), Casey Mihovilovich (Magic), Tonya Matthews (Cougars) and Melissa Moyle (Eastern Suns).

The Men’s competition has shown some early signs that weekly voting will be extremely tight with many exciting performances on the weekend. Sun City Plumbing Buccaneers guard Ryan Zamroz did enough in his teams tough road double to earn the first award for 2010.

Zamroz finished with 71 points and 16 rebounds for the weekend, leading his side to a 2-0 start without fellow import Brian Connelly. Zamroz was one of two players to have a 40+ point weekend with his scintillating shooting display which was shown live on SBLtv on Sunday against the Magic.

Eastern Suns star Adrian Majstrovich and Slammers new star import Jessan Gray were impressive performers over the weekend. Majstrovich led his side to a 1-1 weekend with his 36.5ppg and 9rpg against the Wolves & Giants while shooting at a 60% clip from the floor.

Gray was equally impressive in his side’s 0-2 start against the Flames & Buccs with two double-double performances. Against the Flames Gray had 37 points and 17 rebounds, he backed this up with 29 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists against the powerhouse Buccaneers outfit.

Others in close consideration for the award were Rhett Della Madelana (Flames), Benjamin Beran (Lightning), Geordie Cullen (Senators), John Vaudreuil (Giants), Tom Jervis (Eagles), Mark Jones (Tigers), Robert Kempf (Hawks), Jon Meriweather (Redbacks), Bryce Burch (Cougars), John Smith (Wolves) and Casey Crevelone (Magic).
