Lakeside struck by Lightning

Several basketball stadiums in WA have been forced to close their doors due to the severe weather experienced by Perth last night.

One Stadium who has been affected was the Lakeside Recreation Centre, the Stadium Management being informed this morning that they will not have power for up to 48 hours.

In the true Australian fashion of community, Cockburn Basketball Stadium have offered to provide courts to the Lightning for SBL training this week ahead of the Lightning's big trip to Geraldton.

Lakeside Head Coach Andy Stewart was pleased to have the assistance of local rivals the Cockburn Cougars.

"Cockburn & Lakeside have enjoyed sharing coaching & administration ideas in two or three meetings this year."

"This is just another example of a club helping another club and it is great to see, Lakeside appreciate the gesture."

Lakeside, Cockburn & Willetton all enjoy a fierce rivalry in the South of the River contests. Their rivalry in both junior and senior ranks has helped the sport grow in the region with all three clubs being extremely competitive both on and off court in WA basketball.
