Week Five PowerPlayer of the Week

Each week thanks to PowerPlay Sports, one Women’s and one Men’s SBL player is awarded the SBL PowerPlayer of the week award. The winner receives a $50 voucher for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco.

n the WSBL Mandurah Magic stalwart, Casey Mihovilovich took out the Week Five PowerPlayer of the Week for her efforts against the Metropolis Fremantle Cougars. The Magic prevailed 66-57 in a close contest and were led by Mihovilovich with 33 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 blocks.

Hot on the heels of Mihovilovich were Southlands Willetton Tigers player Jasmine Hooper and Total Connections Hawks import Dana-Renae Jones. Hooper led the Tigers to a 2-0 weekend with averages of 19.5 points & 7.5 rebounds per game. Jones was impressive in the Hawks 79-63 win over the Lightning, finishing with 29 points (10/12 shooting), 10 rebounds and 3 assists.

Others in consideration for the award were Carli Boyanich (Kalamunda), Narelle Henry (Perth), Maree Ansey (Lakeside), Michelle Joy (Stirling), Emma Pass (Cockburn), Rebecca Mercer (Wanneroo) and Samantha Norwood (East Perth).

In the Men’s competition Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks live wire import Jon Meriweather, shot the lights out in his side’s 129-76 win over the AND1 Eastern Suns. Meriweather had 51 points on 85.7% shooting (24/28). That effort was backed up against the Australian Central Eagles on Sunday with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists as his side ran out 109-90 winners.

Sun City Plumbing Buccaneers guard Ryan Zamroz was in close consideration for his effort of 31 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists as his side accounted for the Rockingham Flames 137-84. Lakeside’s import Benjamin Beran was also strong with his 27 points and 13 rebounds as the Lightning accounted for the Hawks 117-78.

Others in consideration for the award were Nebojsha Franich (Kalamunda), Jesse Dixon (Perry Lakes), Jonathan Moon (Stirling), Ty Shaw (Willetton), Jarryd Griffin (Rockingham), John Vaudreuil (Goldfields), Jessan Gray (Southwest), Tom Remmerswaal (Mandurah), Christian Cavanaugh (Cockburn), Ryan Benson (Wanneroo) and Ben Thompson (East Perth).
