Week Six Men's Wrap

Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers swept its horror road trip with wins over Australian Central East Perth Eagles and Southlands Boulevard Willetton Tigers in round six of the men’s State Basketball League.

It had to face the fifth and second placed teams at the start of the round and won convincingly in both tests.

It beat East Perth 101-82 with Ryan Zamroz scoring 29 and Aaron Ralph 20. Paul Rogers top scored for the Eagles, who were outscored 60-86 in the last three quarters, with 18 points.

Zamroz again led it with 32 points in its 98-85 comeback win against the Tigers.

Former Melbourne Tigers centre Daniel Johnson had 36 points and Ty Shaw had 22 points and 22 rebounds for Willetton, which was without Cameron Tovey (on holiday).

It was a bad weekend for East Perth which also losing 84-106 to Lakeside Lightning.

Ryan Sofoulis (27 points) and Luke Payne (26) were first placed Lakeside’s top scorers, while Matthew Schmechtig had 14 points for the Eagles.

East Perth has now dropped to eighth with three straight losses while the Lightning is 6-1.

Skilled Goldfields Giants beat Mandurah Magic 100-99 in a double overtime thriller to move into fifth spot.

The Giants led by 13 at half-time but Mandurah tied the scores at the end of regulation thanks to Casey Crevelone’s inspired effort.

John Vaudreuil top scored with 27 points for Goldfields while Crevelone had 32 points and 11 rebounds for the Magic.

Titan Interactive Wanneroo Wolves caused a significant upset by defeating Southside Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks 119-102.

Seb Salinas and John Smith were outstanding for the Wolves with 29 and 25 points respectively.

Jesse Wagstaff had 31 for Perth in the absence of import Jon Meriweather, who missed with tight hamstrings.

Wanneroo also beat Rockingham Flames 120-109 the next night to move to 4-4 for the season.

Doug Gates led the Wolves with 26 points while Rhett Della Maddalena top scored for Rockingham with 27 points.

ATD Stirling Senators continued its remarkable turnaround with wins over Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks and AND1 Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

It beat the Hawks thanks to 20 points from Geordie Cullen and 19 from import Ed Morris Jr., who was playing his first game of the season. Peter Crawford led Perry Lakes with 22.

Against the Suns Cullen again top scored with 22 leading it to a 98-91 win, its fifth straight.

Adrian Majstrovich (23 points), Kenny Brunner (four points, nine assists) and Austin Bruton (17 points) all returned from injury for Kalamunda, which has lost six consecutively.

Cockburn Cougars denied Carpet Court Southwest Slammers its first win of the season, triumphing 102-100.

The Slammers outscored Cockburn 33-20 in the last quarter to make it close but fell just short. Jessan Gray was its best performer with 32 points and 10 rebounds.

Bryce Burch led Cockburn with 30 points while Christian Cavanaugh was also strong with 28 and 15 boards.

Alex Prince led Willetton to a 99-66 victory over Southwest Friday night with 26 points.

Gray had 19 points and 15 boards for the Slammers.
