Eastern Suns vs. Slammers Preview

Men - Current Standings - Suns (3-7) thirteenth, Slammers (0-10) fourteenth

The Suns with a full squad and some good sessions under their belt have eased the pressure of their critics with two massive wins in the context of the season last week.

Last Friday hosting the all conquering Lakeside, the men were down by nine at quarter time but steamed home to capture a 119-114 win in front of a bumper crowd. Adrian Majstrovich 41, Smith 19, Brown 19 and Brunner 17 including a massive three down the stretch spread the load in the game of the season. Just 24 hours later the team were looking for back to back wins and got off to another slow start trailing by 20 points in the first half but fought their way back to grab a 12pt win with Majstrovich (38pts & 15rebs) and four other Suns registering double figure points.

Congratulations to Adrian Majstrovich who was named the SBL PowerPlayer of the week where he averaged 39.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3 assists across the two games while shooting 73.8% from the field.

Looking at the standings wouldn’t excite many about the game at hand but the Suns would like to say their season has just begun and the Slammers are hungry to taste some success.

The Slammers come in search of their first win and with some late off-season turmoil which saw coach David Petroziello depart, assistant Carl Catalano had the tough job of stepping in just five days out from their first game to take the reins.

Import Jessan Gray (25.0ppg & 13.2rpg) has posted massive numbers from the outset of the season, with support from Johnny Jovine (16.1ppg & 4.4rpg) while recent arrival Trey Clarkson (11.3ppg, 3.3rpg & 4.3 apg) has returned from the states to fill a restricted spot after suiting up for Rockingham last season.

Women - Current Standings - Suns (3-5) eighth, Slammers (0-8) twelfth

The Suns Women got their double header weekend off to a great start with a 60-50 win over Lakeside last Friday before the fast finishing Perry Lakes Hawks outscored them 27-14 in the last to steal a 71-67 victory on Saturday evening in the inaugural game at the State Basketball Centre.

Melissa Moyle had a fantastic weekend contributing 40pts and 17rebs across the two games with Carli Boyanich (Friday) and Chelsea Amstrong (Saturday) offering valuable support.

The Slammers are yet to shift home a win in 2010 but signs that one is not to far away are clearly evident as they pushed ladder leaders East Perth last weekend only going down by 11pts.

With an average age of 19yrs across their squad the key figures for visitors are Kate Fielding (15.5ppg & 4.5rpg), Stephanie Waycott (8.8ppg & 3.6rpg) and Danika Pisconeri (8.6ppg & 7.6rpg).

We look forward to seeing all our fans make the trip to Belmont Oasis ON Saturday evening as the Suns take on the Redbacks with 6pm (W) and 8pm (M) tip-offs.
