Magic manage one trick in round eight

THE MANDURAH Magic had a disappointing weekend after round eight of the SBL, loosing all but one of their games on the weekend.

In the Men’s side, the Magic lost 118 to 72 against current fourth ladder side Lakeside Lightning at the Lakeside Recreation Centre.

The Magic’s were unable to match the Lightning’s performance, which scored steadily during the entire game until the fourth period.

Lakeside player Benjamin Beran scored 35 points for the side, converting 13 from 20 during his 26.15 play time.

The Magic’s Tom Remmerswaal scored 15 points, with Ben Caporn and Shaun Bennison supporting with 10 points each.

Thing’s didn’t fare much better on Saturday at the Mandurah Aquatic Centre, with the Magic narrowly defeated by the Stirling Senators by only eight points.

With the Senators converting 36 from 82, compared to the Magic’s 30 to 83, the scores were set at 90 to 82 by the end of period four.

Edward Morris Jr of the Senators drove the game home, with 26 points scored over his 40.07 minutes on court.

The Women’s Magic fared slightly better during the weekend, winning one of their two games.

The weekend got off to a rough start, with the Magic loosing to the Lakeside Lightning on Friday night.

Loosing 62 to 50, the Lightning felt the pressure from the Magic, only converting 20 from 71 over the course of the game.

The Magic had an early lead after the first period, with 14 points scored against the Lightning’s eight points, but failed to pick up as the game went on.

Courtney Byrnes led the team to victory, with 23 points scored, while the Magic’s Tarsha Fletcher and Casey Mihovilovich scoring 16 and 13 points respectively.

Keen to make up for the loss, the Magic Women came back with a big win against the Stirling Senators on Saturday.

Mihovilovich made up for her previous performance, scoring 33 points during the game, easily outing the Senators Michelle Joy’s score of 10 points.

With 70 of the Magic’s shots converted to 30, against the Senators measly 19 from 65, the Magic finished with 88 points against 50.
