Tigers reign supreme over Hawks

The Southlands Tigers Men and Women have capped off another successful weekend with both teams triumphant over the Perry Lakes Hawks on Saturday night.

In what was their first visit to the new WA Basketball Centre, the Tigers Men and Women were both looking to continue the fine form which had brought both teams to the top of the State Basketball League standings.

The Tigers Women were tested by the Lady Hawks early who were searching to find a solid footing within the WSBL top four.

The Tigers broke away in the fourth quarter pouring on 29 points to claim an amazing tenth straight victory 92-69.

Lynx trio Kate Malpass, Melissa Marsh and Brittany Morgan played a crucial role in the scoring department for the Tigers with 24, 18 and 17 points respectively.

The Tigers Men, coming off an impressive undermanned victory over the defending champion Lakeside Lightning last weekend welcomed back scoring machine Daniel Johnson back into the line up along with young guns Josh Johnson and Mitch Clarke.

A slow start saw the Hawks take the lead at the first break as Townsville Croc Peter Crawford began to light up the scoreboard (34 pts).

But despite their slow patches the depth of the Tigers proved too much as they fought off the upset hungry Hawks in the final term to win 99-82.

Daniel ‘DJ’ Johnson once again proved hard to stop with 22 points while recently signed Perth Wildcat and Cam Tovey was everywhere for his 21 points and 13 boards.

Week 10 of the SBL will see the Tigers Men and Woman take on their first Friday night home game of the season this Friday May 14th hosting the struggling Southwest Slammers who are yet to get a win on the board this season women Tip off at 6.30pm and Men 8.30pm. Bring the family down for a great night of sporting entertainment.
