Eagles set to face Flames

Australian Central East Perth Eagles and Rockingham Flames meet in a potential finals preview in round 10 of the women’s State Basketball League.

East Perth sits second and Rockingham third and if those positions hold the two would be positioned to meet in the final four.

The Eagles are coming off a disappointing home loss to Perry Lakes last week while Rockingham thrashed Stirling.

The inside battle between East Perth’s Ashley Gilmore and Samantha Norwood and Rockingham’s Kaye Tucker could be where the game is decided, with all three Perth Lynx players.

Rockingham also faces local rivals Mandurah Magic in an important game.

Mandurah has won four of its last five overall but has won just one of five on the road, while Rockingham is 4-0 at home.

Casey Mihovilovich led the Magic to a 80-68 win over Kalamunda last week with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Lakeside Lightning host Metropolis Fremantle Cockburn Cougars in a vital local derby.

Both have won three games with Cockburn having lost one more, and the losing team’s finals hopes will be in tatters.

The Lightning had last weekend off but 16-year-old Courtney Byrnes had has a massive impact in its last two games and new import Heidi McNeill should boost its chances.

It will start as underdog when it travels to Southside Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks the following night.

Perth has recovered from a poor stretch to win two of its last three, with Brooke Hiddlestone and recent addition Marita Payne in good form.

Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves should consolidate its top eight spot with a win over AND1 Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

The Wolves have won three straight to sit seventh and have opened a three game gap in the loss column over eighth placed Kalamunda.

Youngster Adrienne Jones made an impressive return for the Suns last week and she will have to have a big game to give her side a good chance.

ATD Stirling Senators are likely to struggle when it travels to Cockburn.

Stirling lost its seventh straight last week despite Michelle Joy’s strong 25 point effort.

Carpet Court Southwest Slammers are set for a tough weekend, meeting Southlands Willetton Tigers on the road before hosting Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks.

The Slammers remain winless while Willetton has won 10 straight to sit top and Perry Lakes showed its class by knocking off second placed East Perth last week.
