Hawks set to rise (Men's Preview)

ATD Stirling Senators and Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks will be trying to boost their finals hopes when they meet in round 11 of the men’s State Basketball League.

Ninth placed Perry Lakes is just one game behind eighth placed Stirling after winning twice last weekend and looks strong after the return of several key players, including Ben Purser.

The Hawks and Senators could end up battling for the final top eight spot at the end of the season, making this game crucial.

Perry Lakes faces a tough test when it hosts Australian Central East Perth Eagles the previous night.

East Perth has won three straight to move into the top four and should be boosted by the return of Perth Wildcats star Damian Martin, who had been expected to play last week but again missed out.

The Eagles play Lakeside Lightning, which has also won three consecutively, Saturday night with both aiming to keep the pressure up on the top two.

Lakeside faces a tough battle with league leaders Southlands Willetton Tigers, which has won five straight.

The battle between two of the league’s best centres, Lakeside’s Jarrad Prue and Willetton’s Daniel Johnson, will prove vital.

Southside Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks host Titan Interactive Wanneroo Wolves with both looking to consolidate their finals spot.

Wanneroo is one win ahead of Perth but the Redbacks will start as favourites at home, where it is 6-1 for the season.

Cockburn Cougars will be boosted by the addition of US collegiate player Gavin Field when it hosts Perth.

Cockburn has lost six straight and its finals chances are becoming slim, but Field’s signing is sure to be a massive boost to it.

Rockingham Flames suffered a massive blow to its finals hopes last week with losses to Mandurah and East Perth and will have to be at its best to avoid a third straight loss when it meets Willetton.

Wanneroo hosts Mandurah Magic with the visitors desperately needing a win to help its top eight chances after it had one win and one loss last round.

SKILLED Goldfields Giants will look to take out the frustration of a disappointing loss to Perry Lakes last week by beating AND1 Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

Goldfields dropped out of the top four after that shock loss while Kalamunda lost narrowly to Wanneroo last week, in a big blow to its finals hopes, without star centre Justin Brown, who was suspended but will return this week.

Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers should be far too strong at home for Carpet Court Southwest Slammers.

Second placed Geraldton will be hoping to keep the pressure up on Willetton while Southwest is still trying for its first win.
