Complacency not an issue

SUN City Plumbing Buccaneers coach Ray Evans said that complacency will not be an issue this weekend when his side takes on the winless Southwest Slammers.

"It is obviously always a danger with facing a team that has not won a game this year," said Evans of the chance his men would be complacent.

"We just have to go hard from the start."

Evans has displaced ladder position this week.

He believes the Geraldton-Bunbury rivalry is as strong as ever.

"It is always a big game and we have had a big rivalry over the years, I am sure they still have pride in their jumper," Evans said.

The two sides met in the opening game of the season but this time round the Slammers have a new look.

In round one Jessan Gray and Johnny Jovine were Southwest's top two scorers but both have left the side.

Evans said that the absence of their two main threats will not effect the Buccs preparation.

"It obviously won't effect too much of what we do and in regards to what they do, we can not change that," he said.

"We will still look to push the ball and get lots of cheap points."

If the opportunity arises Evans is looking to throw his youngsters into the fray.

"It would be great to play everyone but we have a game plan and we can not mess around with our rotations too much," he said.

"If anyone is slow or not ready to go then we will definitely throw in someone who is ready to play."

After the mid-season inclusion of Ben Pepper and the off-season signings of Ryan Zamroz and Brian Connolly the side is beginning to gel.

Evans is pleased with the way his side is travelling but said that they still have a fair way to go.

"We still have a fair way to go to get to where we want to be," he said.

"It is a bit of a juggling act with our scorers but we are definitely on our way there."
