Hawks climb into top eight (Week Eleven Mens Review

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks moved back into the top eight for the first time in five weeks with two wins in round eleven of the men’s State Basketball League.

Perry Lakes defeated Australian Central East Perth Eagles 109-105 on Friday night, despite appearances from Perth Wildcats stars Damian Martin and Steven Weigh for the Eagles.

Weigh had 29 points and Martin 14 but it wasn’t enough as Peter Crawford (23 points) led the Hawks to a vital victory.

The Hawks beat ATD Stirling Senators 111-90 the next night, its fourth straight victory, with Jesse Dixon (29 points, seven rebounds) its best performer.

Stirling slipped out of the eight with its third loss in four games despite 25 points from Edward Morris Jr.

Lakeside Lightning climbed up to top spot with a 104-93 victory over previous leaders Southlands Willetton Tigers.

Imports Luke Payne and Ben Beran combined for 66 points to led Lakeside to victory, while Daniel Johnson top-scored for Willetton with 33.

The Lightning held onto the league lead after beating East Perth 85-76 the next night, led by Beran’s 25 points and five assists.

Weigh had 19 points and nine assists for East Perth but it slid to sixth place with the loss.

Willetton fell to third despite beating Rockingham Flames 117-88, again led by Johnson (23 points, eight rebounds).

Demetrius Hazel had 28 points for the Flames but couldn’t prevent it falling to its third straight loss.

Southside Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks had a strong weekend with victories over Titan Interactive Wanneroo Wolves and Cockburn Cougars.

Jon Meriweather led it to a 116-83 thrashing of Wanneroo with 36 points and 15 rebounds, while Seb Salinas was the Wolves’ best with 27.

Perth won 116-101 at Cockburn, with Meriweather (38 points) again dominant, while Christian Cavanaugh (24 points) led the Cougars.

Casey Crevelone had 31 points to lead Mandurah Magic to an upset 109-97 win at Wanneroo, with 17 points each for Zachary Coverstone and Doug Gates not enough for the Wolves.

SKILLED Goldfields Giants comfortably beat AND1 Kalamunda Eastern Suns 102-83, led by Matthew Leske’s 24 points.

Kalamunda fell to its fourth straight loss despite 22 points from Justin Brown.

Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers stayed in second place and extended its winning streak to five games with a 116-90 win over Carpet Court Southwest Slammers.

Former NBL star Ben Pepper led Geraldton with 26 points and nine rebounds while Jason Miller top-scored for the Slammers with 25.
