Buccs step up training

BRIAN Connelly hopes the Buccs pull some of their training track tricks out of the hat against Mandurah Magic at Tip Top Stadium tomorrow night.

The import says the Geraldton Sun City Buccaneers have stepped up a notch in training so they can fire on all cylinders come finals.

“We’ve been really working on our plays to get them more fluent,” said Connelly, who averages 17.9 points and eight rebounds per game.

He said coach Ray Evans had been pushing the players to the wire with two hard training sessions this week.

“The coach has been tough on us this week which has been good,” he said.

“A lot of us are a bit sore after practice but I’m sure we will be physically and mentally tough against Mandurah.”

The Buccs were forced to dig deep when they played Mandurah at home in round one.

Connelly watched the 95 to 86 victory from the sidelines at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre due to hold up with his immigration papers.

Fellow countryman Ryan Zamroz reckons Connelly will be fired up for the game.

“Mandurah was a tough physical game which Brian seems to enjoy,” Zamroz said.

“You could see he wanted to help out last time, I’m sure he’s excited.”

Last week’s home victory over country rivals South West was the Buccs fifth successive.

Mandurah (6-9) have lost five of their eight away games in 2010 and are 10th on the SBL ladder.

The Magic go into tomorrow’s showdown on the back of a 109-97 win over Wanneroo — their third in four games.

Mandurah have also jumped from second bottom on the ladder to 10th in three rounds.

Casey Crevelone will be one to watch if he reproduces his return to form which saw him rack up 31-points against the Wolves.

Crevelone, who averages 20.5 points per game, top scored with 34-points against the Buccs when the two sides last met.

Mandurah bolstered their player list on Monday when 201cm import Taylor Mullenax joined after a professional stint in Norway.
