Gruelling three-game series

THE Goldfields Giants will look to consolidate their position in the State Basketball League’s top four when they contest this weekend’s gruelling three-game road series.

The series gets under way on Saturday night with the squad’s clash with the Willetton Tigers before the team travels to Eaton for a Sunday afternoon showdown with the last placed South-West Slammers.

Next weekend’s trip concludes on Monday against the Perth Redbacks.

Despite the travel demands, the Giants boast a remarkable record in the corresponding series over the past decade in which they have prevailed in 28 of 30 matches.

Since 2001, Goldfields have swept each of the three games on eight occasions.

In 2004 and 2005, the Giants embarked on a pair of triple-headers but have never fared worse than two wins.

A similar performance during the long weekend could set-up the Giants for the remainder of the qualifying series with five of the last seven games to be played on their home court.

The standings are headed by the Geraldton Buccaneers, who have compiled an imposing 13-3 win-loss record – one win clear of the Tigers.
