Redbacks, Hawks face off in crucial clash (Womens Game Previews)

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks host Southside Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks in a vital match in round 13 of the women’s State Basketball League.

Perth climbed above Perry Lakes and into fourth spot last weekend and the two look set to battle all season for the final top four spot.

The team which finishes fourth will get home court advantage in its three-game series against the fifth placed team in the first round of the finals, with these two possible opponents in that series.

Perry Lakes could have a slight edge from its 6-1 home record this year, but Perth has won three straight and could challenge the Hawks through its dominant inside duo of Marita Payne and Brooke Hiddlestone.

Rockingham Flames will move into tie for first place with Willetton if it can win at Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves.

Rockingham lost the league lead with its shock loss at Kalamunda last week but, with Willetton having the bye this week, can match the Tigers’ 12-3 record.

Wanneroo has won two straight, led by in-form youngster Alex Kerr, and has only lost twice at home this year.

AND1 Kalamunda Eastern Suns will be looking to consolidate its top eight spot when it meets ATD Stirling Senators.

The Suns lost narrowly to Willetton after its shock win over Rockingham last week and are in great form, with it likely to thrash Stirling, which has only won twice this year.

The bigger test for Kalamunda will come the next night when it travels to face Mandurah Magic.

Mandurah hasn’t lost at home this season and will be favoured to win, especially if Kalamunda star Melissa Moyle again misses with a leg injury.

Australian Central East Perth Eagles should win comfortably when it hosts Metropolis Fremantle Cockburn Cougars.

East Perth has consolidated its top four spot with two straight wins while Cockburn’s finals hopes have become increasingly unlikely with it having won just one of its last five.
