Morris Jr saves Senators in thriller

Ed Morris Jr rescued Stirling Senators from a potential disaster to lead it to a thrilling 105-103 win over Kalamunda Eastern Suns in the men’s State Basketball League.

Stirling trailed by five points with less than 90 seconds remaining but Morris completed a three-point play to tie the score before hitting the winning shot in the final seconds.

Morris finished with 39 points, 14 rebounds and six assists for Stirling, while former Perth Wildcats player Carmichael Olowoyo added 34 points.

Stirling boosted its finals chances significantly and moved level with sixth-placed East Perth with a 9-8 record, but remains outside the top eight on percentage.

Justin Brown had 34 points and 14 rebounds for the Suns in a dominant display and Adrian Majstrovich had 30 points but missed a three-point shot that would have won the game for Kalamunda with two seconds left.

Kalamunda has lost seven straight and is second last with no chance of making the finals, falling well short of its high pre-season expectations. In the women’s game, Kalamunda consolidated its finals spot with a 68-54 victory over Stirling.

Perth Lynx star Melissa Moyle again missed for Kalamunda but good production from Carli Boyanich (20 points, nine rebounds) and Sarah-Jane Knox (11 points, 13 rebounds) ensured a comfortable win for the Suns.

Michelle Joy top-scored for Stirling with 20 points while Emily Fielding added 16.

The Suns moved one win clear of ninth-placed Lakeside, while Stirling remains seconds last with just two wins for the season.
