Hawks climb into top four (Womens Wrap)

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks moved back into the top four of the women’s State Basketball League with a 66-58 win over Southisde Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks.

Perry Lakes overtook Perth, moving into fourth spot, and will have home court advantage in a battle between the two sides in the first round of the finals if those positions hold until the end of the season.

Lyndal Gardner was Perry Lakes’ best performer with 22 points while Brooke Hiddlestone led the Redbacks with 27 points and 21 rebounds in the absence of front court partner Marita Payne.

Rockingham Flames moved into a tie for first place with a 82-77 victory at Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves.

Kaye Tucker had 25 points and 14 rebounds and Lavessa Glover had 24 points in her best performance of the season to lead the Flames to victory, while Alex Kerr top-scored for the Wolves with 23.

Rockingham remains behind league leaders Willetton on percentage but both have a 12-3 record.

Australian Central East Perth Eagles thrashed Metropolis Fremantle Cockburn Cougars 78-44.

It was East Perth’s 12th win of the season, leaving it one loss behind Willetton and Rockingham.

Samantha Norwood had 29 points to lead the Eagles to victory, supported by Ashley Gilmore, who had 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Sam O’Neill top-scored for the Cougars with 13.

Mandurah Magic ended a two-game losing streak and consolidated its top eight spot with a 75-48 thrashing of AND1 Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

Casey Mihovilovich (21 points, nine rebounds) and Tarsha Fletcher (10 points, 11 assists) were among Mandurah’s best while Carli Boyanich (13 points) was the only Kalamunda player to reach double figures.

Kalamunda fared better the previous night, beating ATD Stirling Senators 68-54 to remain in the top eight.

Boyanich had 20 points for the Suns while Michelle Joy was Stirling’s best with 20 points and 16 rebounds.
