Neil hits 400 against Lightning

Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks’ shooting guard Ryan Neill plays his 400th State Basketball League game tonight against Lakeside Lightning.

In a basketball career spanning 17-years Neill has scored 6158 points at a game average of 15.4 and field goal percentage of 43, made 912 three-point scores at 37% and 720 free throws at 83.3%.

Neill’s highest personal accolade was in 2006 when he won the award as the League Most Valuable Player. He has also won the Redbacks' Most Valuable Player award on two occasions.

The fifth-placed Redbacks’ men’s team will be looking to celebrate Neill’s achievement in tonight’s important game against the third placed Lightning, which tips off at 8.30PM at the Lakeside Recreation Centre.

The result of this game will be dependent upon the outcome of some key match-ups.

This includes the Redbacks’ point guard Joel Wagner against the Lightning’s Steve Butler, shooting guard Neill against Ryan Sofoulis, small-forward Robert Cassir against Luke Payne, forward Jesse Wagstaff against Ben Beran and tough centre Daniel Maddox against Jarrad Prue.

The preceding women’s game tips off at 6.30PM, with the fourth placed Redbacks’ women’s team looking to reverse their previous loss to the 8th placed Lightning combination.

The Redbacks need to play at their best to secure a win against the tightly drilled Lightning team. They will be looking to the twin-towers of Marita Payne and Brooke Hiddlestone to bring their recent dominant performances against other teams into this game.

All Redbacks’ fans are encouraged to come to the Lakeside Recreation Centre tonight to honour Ryan Neill’s 400-game achievement and support the teams. At Neill’s request the formal League presentation will be held at the Redbacks next home game at 8.00PM on Friday 25 June against the Geraldton Buccaneers.
