Buccs aim for top

SUN City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers will take a big step towards finishing in first place if they score two wins during their round trip this weekend.

The Buccs come up against the Perth Redbacks tonight and Goldfields Giants tomorrow night.

Buccs coach Ray Evans said his side are looking to redeem themselves against the Giants after a 104-113 loss earlier this season.

“We played our worst game of the year last time we played them,” Evans said.

Evans expects a decent week on the training track and a healthy squad to result in two good performances.

“We have had a decent week on the track and the guys are keen to play,” he said.

“It is obviously a big challenge for us with Perth in form and a tough trip to Kalgoorlie.”

Perth are currently sitting fifth on the ladder and are coming off an upset 87-86 win over Lakeside last week.

Evans has called on Aaron Ralph to shut down NBL Rookie of the Year, Jesse Wagstaff.

“Aaron Ralph will more then likely get the job on him,” he said.

“Ralphy played on him last time and did a good job.

“They are bit of an unknown to us at this stage with injuries, we are not sure what team they will play.”

Evans has revenge on his mind heading into tomorrow nights game.

“It’s always a huge game and one we mark on our calendars,” he said.

“We need to get off to a good start and not let them gain confidence.”

The Giants’ shooters gave Evans plenty of headaches last time and he has placed emphasis on shutting them down.

“We must get out to their shooters and contest every shot,” he said.

SBLtv will broadcast Saturday nights game from 7.30pm.
