Tigers maul Magic

THE top-ladder Willetton Tigers proved to be too much for both Mandurah Magic teams on the weekend.

The Magic women’s team started the evening with a highly contested game against the Tigers, with both teams struggling for the lead.

An early lead from the Magic with 23 points in the first quarter got the side off to a good start, as the team edged out the Tigers with some hard-hitting free throws.

But the Tigers began to edge out in front during the second and third quarter, scoring 19 points for each and slowly pushing back the side.

While a final big push by Magic saw the side just nip the competition with 17 points, it wasn’t enough to make up for the previous two quarter losses.

The Magic eventually fell behind by only three points, finishing with 68 to 71 in a disappointing but challenging game.

Katie Reed and Casey Mihovilovich scored 15 points each for the side, supported by Tarsha Fletcher with 14 points.

The Magic men had a less successful run than the women’s team in their clash with the Tigers.

The Tigers dominated the competition in the first three quarters in spite of an early fighting spirit from the Magic.

The first quarter saw the Magic with 33 points, only two points behind the efforts of the Tigers in a heated opening to the game.

As the Tigers began to bring in their top-tier playing, the Magic fell behind drastically.

Scoring only 19 and 15 in the second and third period, the Tigers scored an opposing 32 and 29 to lead drastically.

Even in the final period, the Magic only pushed ahead with 26 points to 23.

The Magic finished with a final score of 93 to 119, further cementing the Tigers position at the top and the home sides 10th place spot.

Taylor Mullenax scored 18 points for the Magic, with support from Tom Remmerswaal with 15 points.

They lagged behind the work of the Tigers Daniel Johnson with 29 points and Ty Shaw with 23 points.
