Tigers look to wrap up top spot (Men's Preview)

Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers and Southlands Willetton Tigers meet in a top of the table clash in a big weekend of men’s State Basketball League action.

The second placed Buccaneers host the first placed Tigers and Geraldton needs to win to remain a chance of finishing first, but the Tigers have won seven straight and will be formidable.

Geraldton picked up a big win the last time the two sides met in April, and Willetton will want to get one over its rivals in the potential Grand Final preview.

SKILLED Goldfields Giants’ top four chances are slipping away and its nightmare road-trip, which sees it face Lakeside Lightning and Australian Central East Perth Eagles, could end with the Giants fighting to maintain a top eight spot.

Goldfields sits sixth after three straight losses and must beat East Perth, the only side the Giants have left to play outside the top eight, but Perth Wildcats star Steven Weigh is back from Australian Boomers duties and had 40 points to give the Eagles a much needed win against Perth last week.

East Perth also meets Mandurah Magic, which has lost three of its last four, and can move into the top eight if it wins.

Lakeside has won three consecutively and will be in the top two after this round if it can beat the Giants and Rockingham Flames, which has lost four of its last five.

Titan Interactive Wanneroo Wolves surprisingly moved into the top four last week and will be desperate to do its bit to stay there by beating ATD Stirling Senators.

Wanneroo has won four straight to go from battling to make the finals to a definite top six side, while Stirling’s top eight place is precarious, with it having lost two of its last three.

Regardless of the result between Wanneroo and Stirling, Southside Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks will move back into fourth spot if it can beat Stirling and Carpet Court Southwest Slammers.

Perth beat Geraldton before losing to East Perth last week but will try to ride the good form of Jesse Wagstaff back into the top four, while Southwest is just five losses away from a winless season.

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks should consolidate its top eight spot with a win over AND1 Kalamunda Eastern Suns, which has won just five games all season.

Cockburn Cougars host Rockingham with only pride at stake for both sides, although both will be keen to end their poor form.
