Eagles need a little Magic (Women's Preview)

Australian Central East Perth Eagles will be trying to get its women’s State Basketball League season back on track when it meets Mandurah Magic.

East Perth’s top four places seemed virtually assured just a few weeks ago but it has lost three of its last four games and will likely fall out of the four unless it can upset the Magic.

Mandurah lost at home for the first time last week with a 71-68 defeat to top side Southlands Willetton Tigers, but remains an impressive 7-1 in Mandurah and will be tough to beat.

Lakeside Lightning can wrap up a finals spot if it bounce back from a shock loss to ATD Stirling Senators last week and upset second placed side Rockingham Flames.

The Lightning beat AND1 Kalamunda Eastern Suns the night before and appeared to be assured of a finals chance but blew it with a loss to the Senators, and remain at least a mathematical chance of missing out, while second placed Rockingham will be looking to keep its chances of finishing first alive.

Rockingham has an easier task the next night against Metropolis Fremantle Cockburn Cougars, which has lost six straight.

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks will be trying to consolidate its top eight spot by beating Kalamunda.

Perry Lakes will finish the weekend in third spot if it can win its second straight and East Perth loses to Mandurah, while Kalamunda must win to remain any chance of making the finals.

Southside Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks will move into the top four if it can take advantage of its weak schedule by beating Stirling and Carpet Court Southwest Slammers.

Former Australian Opals centre Marita Payne has been in spectacular form for the Redbacks, averaging 25 points and 11.75 rebounds per game in the last month, and should lead the Redbacks into the top four with wins over the bottom two sides.

Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves should virtually ensure it avoids a first round finals matchup with either of the top two when it meets Stirling.

The Wolves look set to finish just outside the top four after beating Southwest last week, but Stirling has picked up some confidence having won two of its last three.
