Wolves extinguish Flames from finals (Women's Wrap)

Second seed Rockingham Flames were knocked out in the first round of the women’s State Basketball League finals in a massive upset.

Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves took game one last week before losing the second game on Friday, but recovered to win the deciding third game of the series 56-47.

Wanneroo will face Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks in the best-of-three semi-finals, while Southlands Willetton Tigers meets Southside Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks in the other series.

The seventh seed led by 15 late in the third quarter of game three but had to hold off a Rockingham comeback, which even saw the Flames take the lead with three minutes left, to advance.

Ainsleigh Sanders (13 points, nine rebounds) was the Wolves’ best while Rockingham’s Kaye Tucker had a game-high 16 points.

It was a massive turnaround from game two, with Rockingham cruising to a 68-50 victory, again led by Tucker (17 points).

Perry Lakes swept Mandurah Magic with a 68-62 win in game two.

Mandurah led for much of the game, with the margin getting as high as nine, but Perry Lakes progressed by outscoring the Magic 38-25 in the second half.

Tegan Walker top-scored for the Hawks with 17 points, while Shelley Boston led the Magic with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Perth advanced with a 2-0 series win over Australian Central East Perth Eagles after winning game two 61-58.

The Eagles led by four at half-time but faded after forward Samantha Norwood fouled out in the third quarter.

Marita Payne led Perth with 23 points and 12 rebounds while Ashley Gilmore was outstanding for East Perth with 27 points and five steals.

Top side Willetton beat Lakeside Lightning 79-64 to advance in straight sets.

Willetton extended its one-point quarter-time lead to 18 points just seven minutes later and cruised to victory from there.

Zoe Harper was dominant for the Tigers with 26 points and 10 rebounds, with import Heidi McNeill (24 points) top-scoring for Lakeside.
