SBL Semi Final Fixtures

The State Basketball League moves into Semi Final mode with week one of the Semi Finals being played on August 6 and 7.

There are just four teams remaining in each of the Women’s & Men’s competitions after a hard fought quarter finals series over the previous two weekends.

In the Women’s competition the top seeded Willetton Tigers advanced and will face the fourth seeded Perth Redbacks. The third placed Perry Lakes Hawks will tackle the seventh placed Wanneroo Wolves.

The Men’s competition saw all top four teams advance with the first placed Lakeside Lightning set to do battle with the fourth placed Perth Redbacks. The second placed Willetton Tigers will face off against the third placed Geraldton Buccaneers.

The lower ranked team will host game one on the first weekend followed by games two and three (if required) at the higher ranked teams home venue on August 13, 14 and 15.

Crowds flocked to stadiums in large numbers to cheer their teams on during the quarter finals with many stadiums around town at capacity which was a great sign for the league.

While only one of the combined eight series went the distance to three games, fans were treated to many close, action packed games.

Both Grand Finals are one off games with the Women being played on Friday August 20 and the Men on Saturday August 21. Both games will be played at the new $40 million WA Basketball Centre in Mt Claremont.

Tickets for both Grand Finals games go on sale at 9:00am Monday August 9 through Ticketmaster and can be purchased online or at the Ticketmaster outlets at Challenge Stadium and Arena Joondalup.

The 2009 Grand Finals were both at capacity at Perry Lakes Stadium with a record crowd turning up for the Women’s Grand Final and the Men continuing their run of sell out crowds.
