Hawks and Tigers claw into Grand Final (Women's Wrap)

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks will face Southlands Willetton Tigers in the women’s State Basketball League Grand Final next Friday.

Both best-of-three series’ went to the deciding game, with Perry Lakes overcoming Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves and Willetton beating Southside Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks.

Perry Lakes will be playing to hold onto its precarious advantage on the championship leader board, with the Hawks having won the title six times and Willetton next best with five.

The Hawks were expected to cruise into the title decider after winning game one at Wanneroo last week, but fell to the Wolves 60-56 in game two.

Wanneroo nearly threw away a double-digit lead late in the last quarter, but held on, with Rebecca Mercer (16 points) the star.

The Wolves led by five with four minutes left and were in front in the last minute of game three, but fell 79-73.

Lyndal Gardner got the third seeded Hawks over the line and into its 12th championship decider with a game-high 21 points, while Dana-Renae Jones had 11 rebounds.

Alex Kerr top-scored for the Wolves with 20 points.

Willetton recovered from its shock loss in game one to level its series with Perth after winning game two 70-62.

West Coast Waves star Melissa Marsh was in great form for the defending champions with 28 points, while 2009 SBL MVP Brooke Hiddlestone led the Redbacks with 32 points and 14 rebounds.

The Tigers were even more dominant in game three, winning 75-50.

Top seed Willetton won every quarter and led for all but the first 13 seconds of the game as it cruised to its ninth Grand Final appearance.

Marsh and Zoe Harper each had 15 points for the Tigers, while Hiddlestone again led the Redbacks with 19 points.
