Smith to lead Flames Men

The Rockingham Flames have completed a national and international search for a head coach for the Men’s SBL team with the appointment of Jason Smith to a two year deal.

Smith has had extensive experience at both State and SBL level over the past 6 years with head and assistant coaching roles in a variety of programs and comes to the Flames as the team looks to build on a talented local roster and return to finals action in 2011.

“I would like to thank Shannon and the Board of the Rockingham Flames for the opportunity they have provided to me with my appointment for the upcoming SBL seasons.”

“With this opportunity comes an exciting time for myself and the club with the challenge of building a successful program that will be respected by the whole league both on and off the court. Our goal will be to play an exciting brand of basketball that will allow the players to play to their strengths and excite and entertain the vocal and loyal supporters of Rockingham.”

Flames CEO, Shannon Conrad was equally delighted with the team’s future and the role Smith will play at the club.

“Jason has shown a dedication to his coaching over his career to date which exhibits an enviable work ethic. At times having an involvement at State, SBL and WABL in the same year indicates a person who is passionate about the sport and coaching. Despite earning head coaching roles on many occasions Jason has also sought assistant coaching roles with some of this State’s finest coaches demonstrating a desire to always be improving his skills and knowledge. ”

“The Board of the Flames are confident that Jason’s coaching philosophy and outlook for the team will result in a disciplined team that gives 100% week in week out.”

The Flames will be running a series of sessions for returning and prospective players from December 6th and information will be available on the club website at www.rockinghamflames.com.au.
