Field saves the day in UWG 'W'

If you prefer superheroes in your afternoon matinee, then Gavin Field provided the perfect dramatic conclusion in saving the day for the University of West Georgia men’s basketball team on Saturday.

Afterward, UWG coach Michael Cooney fittingly dubbed his junior forward “Mr. Fantastic” — of the comic and big picture fame “The Fantastic Four” — following Field’s late-game exploits in the Wolves’ 71-68 triumph over District of Columbia at The Coliseum.

Not only did Field — who stands 6-foot-7 and tops out at 175 pounds dripping wet — knock down a pair of key free throws with 10.6 seconds left in the contest to stretch UWG’s lead up to three points, he also blocked the potential game-tying 3-pointer by the Firebirds’ David Sanders in the final second to seal the win.
