Senators add three

Stirling Senators WSBL team has been boosted with news that three new players have agreed to join the team for the 2011 season and also the return of a familiar face in the coaching staff.

Waves Development squad members Danika Pisconeri and Frances Clarke will play for the Warwick outfit joining from the Southwest Slammers and Perth Redbacks respectively. And in a further boost to the group, experienced veteran Kelly Ellis returns to her former Club after leaving the Perry Lakes Hawks.

Pisconeri and Clarke, both post players with aspiring WNBL aspirations, will use the coming season to work on facets of their game that they hope will bring them closer to their Waves dreams.

“Both Danika and Frances come to Stirling with certain things they want to achieve and work on, things that they and I feel will make them better players. They are both young with a big up-side to their games and I look forward to helping them achieve their goals and in turn make Stirling a better team.” said Head Coach Vlad Alava.

Pisconeri joins the Senators after moving to North Perth from Waroona and will help increase the depth at the post position along with Clarke.

“The two of them give us depth at the post position and will allow me to move Michelle Joy out to the perimeter where she is more potent.” added Alava.

Veteran guard Ellis, who was part of the Perry Lakes team that succumbed to the Willetton Tigers in last year’s Grand Final, returns to the Senators after a five year stint away.

“For me, returning to Stirling is about coming home and being back around my friends and family. Stirling is a great Club and is heading in a fantastic direction and I’m excited to be part of it.”

“Kelly decided that it was the right time to come back to the Senators and her return continues my desire to bring back Senators girls from around other teams.” added the second year mentor. “She is a veteran campaigner who will add experience and leadership to the group- she feels she can still offer plenty and by the looks of things early on, she will.”

Movement has not been exclusive to the roster, with former Perry Lakes Head Coach Glenn Ellis accepting Alava’s offer to join the coaching group as an assistant coach.

Ellis, a well known coach around the SBL scene last year coached the Perry Lakes Hawks into the Grand final decider.

“Glenn is a great coach, communicator and educator. I think the thought of him watching on the sidelines on game night and not at the coal face twice a week at training is ridiculous. I’m glad he’s accepted my offer to help this season. Our team will be the better for it.”
