Tigers sign American Rob Kampman for 2011

After an extensive search for an import forward for 2011, the reigning champion Willetton Tigers are pleased to announce the signing of American Robert Kampman for the 2011 season.

The 203cm 26 year old forward played for Frankston in the ABA and has forgone offers on the East Coast to hook up with former Frankston player and Tigers captain Adam Nener.

The Wichita State University graduate has Frankston career averages of 20.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in 40 minute games and will add some much needed scoring power to the reigning title holders who have had an unsually large turnover of players in the offseason.

Asked about the signing of Kampman, Head Coach Shayne Hampel commented that “Rob has all the right credentials and as well as being a great individual player he is also an excellent team man and a wonderful person off the court.

Adam (Nener) gave a glowing report on Rob. Once it became clear we would have a spot available he said that Rob was our man. The rest is history. Rob is a different sort of player to what we have had in the past and is probably a combination of what DJ and Alex brought to our team.

It is unusual for a championship team to undergo so many changes in the off season. We have lost four major parts of the championship run with Daniel Johnson, Ty Shaw, Alex Prince and Mark Jones all unable to return for the 2011 title defense. We have been very careful in who we get to replace them.

We’re super excited with the potential of this signing. Adding Rob to new signing Rob Cassir, Cam Tovey, Adam Nener, Ian Callaghan and the rest of last year’s juniors is a great start. We still have some ways to go before finalising our roster but this is the most important piece done.”

Rob arrives in early February.

Stay tuned for more player announcements in the coming weeks.
