Tigers continue to struggle (Saturday Night SBL Wrap)

Defending men’s State Basketball League champions Willetton Tigers remain winless this season after falling 81-71 to Cockburn Cougars.

The Tigers were blown out by their local rivals in the third quarter and couldn’t come back as they slumped to their second straight defeat to start the year.

New Cougars import Stanley Ocitti scored 33 points to lead his side to their third consecutive victory to start the season, while fellow American Robert Kampman top-scored for Willetton with 28 points.

Lakeside Lightning continued their perfect start to the campaign with a 128-92 thrashing of Perth Redbacks.

The Redbacks were previously undefeated but Ben Beran’s 30 points ensured the Lightning, who lost last year’s Grand Final, picked up their third win from three games this season.

Adrian Majstrovich top-scored for Perth with 35 points.

Geraldton Buccaneers’ nightmare start to the year continued with a 99-91 loss to Rockingham Flames.

The Buccaneers reached the semi-finals last year but are winless from three games this year after Kent Tribbet (36 points) led Rockingham to victory.

Goldfields Giants held on for their first win of the season, beating East Perth Eagles in an 88-85 thriller.

Import Matthew Rosinski (31 points) helped the Giants overturn a late deficit to break their two-game losing streak.

Perry Lakes Hawks ended a two-game losing streak to beat Stirling Senators 111-93. Jesse Dixon had a game-high 34 points for the Hawks.

Kalamunda Eastern Suns import Dean Hadley scored 31 points to lead his side to a 95-81 victory over Southwest Slammers.
