Cougars roar past Suns for sixth straight win (Saturday Night Wrap)

Cockburn Cougars continued their unbeaten start to the men’s State Basketball League season with a thumping 115-77 win over Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

The Cougars shot out to a 26 point lead as early as seven minutes into the second period and led by 27 points at the main break.

Stanley Ocitti recorded 22 points and 14 rebounds and Sheldon McIntyre had 17 for the Cougars, while Dean Hadley managed 21 of his own in the losing Kalamunda cause.

In Geraldton, Wanneroo Wolves resigned the Buccaneers to a 1-4 season record and moved clear of the mid-table congestion after they came from three points down at half time to claim a 92-83 win.

Seb Salinas with 34 points for Wanneroo while Wildcats development player Greg Hire had 17 rebounds.

Perth Redbacks wasted a golden opportunity to keep the pressure on top-placed Cockburn and second placed Lakeside as they went down 109-99 to Rockingham Flames.

Adrian Majstrovich was unable to get his side up despite 32 points and 17 rebounds.

Goldfield Giants continued their resurgence after a tight 92-87 defeat of Mandurah Magic to make it three straight wins.

The Magic faded late as they were outscored 28-18 final period to let their five-point final term lead slip.

Perry Lakes proved too good for the South West Slammers with a 95-77 runaway victory.

After being tied up at 18-a-piece at quarter time, the Hawks blew the game open with a 34 to 15 second period to set up the win.

Stirling Senators ensured they would stay clear of the bottom of the table with a 107-99 win over East Perth Eagles, who have suffered three straight defeats.

In women’s action, Kalamunda Suns were unable to continue their winning start to the season with a 73-64 loss to Cockburn Cougars.

Elsewhere, East Perth defeated Stirling 85-52 and Perry Lakes were 78-59 winners over South West.
