Wolves maintain pace in Tiger hunt (Round Five WSBL Wrap)

Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves have maintained the pressure on women's State Basketball League leaders Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers with a pair of crucial wins in round five.

The Wolves handed Mandurah Magic just their second loss of the season with an 80-60 result on Saturday before beating Kalamunda Eastern Suns 85-69 on Sunday to improve to 5-1, just one win behind the Tigers.

Wanneroo's Meghan D'Arcy played a crucial role in the victory over Mandurah with 17 points, while Casey Mihovilovich had 14 points and six assists for Mandurah, but it wasn't enough to stop her side falling to a 3-2 record.

And D'Arcy continued her outstanding form with 20 points to overcome the Suns, who suffered their third straight loss despite the best efforts of Melissa Moyle (19 points).

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks continued their good form and moved into the top four after beating Metropolis Fremantle Cockburn Cougars 71-64.

The Hawks have won four straight after Tegan Walker (20 points) and Christine Boyd (19) saw them past the Cougars, who have fallen to eighth spot after losing two of their last three games.

Australian Central East Perth Eagles beat Southwest Slammers 71-47 to increase their winning streak to three games.

Kate Fielding had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead East Perth to victory over her former side, while Lavesa Glover had 20 points and 17 boards for the Slammers.

Southwest also fell 60-50 to Perth Redbacks on Friday as Brooke Hiddlestone (22 points and 12 rebounds) helped last year's semi-finalists claim their second straight win.

Fellow tall Marita Payne added 18 points for the Redbacks, who moved up to fifth spot with their victory.

Western Stainless Stirling Senators continued their improved form with an 85-52 win over Rockingham Flames.

The Senators have won two of their last three and are just one game outside the top eight after Rachel Watman's 20 points led them to victory, while the Flames are bottom of the league with a 0-5 record.

Rockingham's game against Kalamunda on Friday was postponed as no other suitable venue was available to host the match.
