Redbacks need plenty of bite for crucial doubleheader (Round Six MSBL Preview)

Perth Redbacks will be looking to consolidate their top four spot when they meet Cockburn Cougars and SKILLED Goldfields Giants in round six of the men's State Basketball League.

The Redbacks have won three of their last four games to climb to fourth spot, but league leaders Cockburn and fellow top eight sides Goldfields should provide tough tests.

The Cougars will be particularly desperate for a victory after they suffered their first loss of the season to Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks last week, while the Giants will be looking to bounce back from their heartbreaking loss to Lakeside Lightning on Saturday.

Goldfields also face the fifth placed Rockingham Flames on Friday at Ray Owen Sports Centre in Kalamunda, which forms part of a country doubleheader, with Kalamunda Eastern Suns also hosting Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers earlier in the night.

Geraldton will be looking to maintain its momentum after beating Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers last week when it meets the 12th placed Suns and Australian Central East Perth Eagles, who ended their three-game losing streak last week.

East Perth also meets the Hawks, who have won three straight to climb to sixth spot.

Reigning champions Willetton will be desperate to end their disappointing start to the season when they host Wanneroo Wolves on Friday.

The Tigers have limped to a 3-4 start and sit in 10th spot and will have to improve significantly to get past the second placed Wolves, who boast a 6-2 record after winning their last four games.

ATD Stirling Senators moved into the top eight with victories in three of their previous four games, but will still be the underdog when they face Lakeside Lightning on Thursday.

The Lightning have only lost once this season, but the Senators will be full of confidence after knocking off Rockingham last Saturday.

Mandurah Magic and Southwest Slammers will be desperate to move away from the bottom of the table when they meet on Thursday.

The Magic have lost five straight to fall to a 1-6 record, while the Slammers are still looking for their first win of the season.
