Willetton too strong for Wolves (Round Six WSBL Wrap)

Defending women's State Basketball League champions Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers continued their perfect start to the season with a thrilling 62-58 overtime victory against Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves.

The Tigers have won their first seven games of the year and are two games in front of the second placed Wolves after they overturned a deficit late in the fourth quarter and claimed victory in a tense extra period in the round six clash.

West Coast Waves youngster Jasmine Hooper continued her outstanding form with 15 points and 15 rebounds for Willetton, while WNBL teammate Rebecca Mercer had 14 points for the Wolves.

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks equalled Wanneroo's 5-2 record and moved into third spot after beating Australian Central East Perth Eagles 77-67.

The Hawks claimed their fifth straight win after outscoring East Perth 40-30 in the second half, with Gabriella Clayton (20 points) leading the way.

Samantha Norwood had 28 points and 14 rebounds for the Eagles, but it wasn't enough to prevent her side from falling out of the top four.

Metropolis Fremantle Cockburn Cougars continued their impressive home form with a 70-65 win over Perth Redbacks.

The Cougars climbed to sixth spot with their third win from four home games, led by Courtney Hargreaves (18 points and 14 rebounds), while Marita Payne had 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Redbacks.

Mandurah Magic's 70-63 win over Southwest Slammers saw them move into the top four with their third win from four outings.

Casey Mihovilovich had 21 points for the Magic, who improved to a 4-2 record, while Lavesa Glover's 18 points and 13 rebounds weren't enough for the Slammers to avoid their sixth consecutive loss.

Lakeside Lightning finally broke through for their first win of the season, a 62-48 triumph over Western Stainless Stirling Senators.

Stirling had won two of their previous three games but Lakeside import Heidi McNeill (26 points and 12 rebounds) and new recruit Emily Fielding (18 points) helped end the 2010 finalists' five-game losing streak.

Michelle Joy had 14 points for the Senators, who fell to a 2-5 record but remained in ninth spot.
