Perry Lakes, Wanneroo battle for second (Round Eight WSBL Preview)

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks and Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves will be out to continue their impressive starts to the women's State Basketball League season when they meet on Friday.

The Wolves and Hawks, who sit in second and third spots respectively are widely considered the two teams most likely to prevent undefeated league leaders Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers from winning a third straight championship.

And the round eight match provides the perfect chance for both sides to boost their title stocks, while the winner will also take second spot.

Perry Lakes also face a tough battle against an in-form Lakeside Lightning side on Saturday.

The Lightning lost their first five games of the season but moved back into finals contention with victories in their last three and should test the Hawks.

Perth Redbacks have slipped to eighth spot with a run of inconsistent form and will be hoping to get back on track when they host Wanneroo.

The Redbacks have lost their last two but the inside presence of Marita Payne and Brooke Hiddlestone should cause problems for the Wolves.

Australian Central East Perth Eagles will be hoping to end a two-game losing streak with an upset victory over Willetton.

The Eagles have struggled in recent weeks despite the outstanding form of forward Samantha Norwood, while the Tigers boast an imposing average winning margin of 18.8 points from their nine games.

Willetton also meets Rockingham Flames, who will be desperate to get off the bottom of the ladder after losing their first seven games by an average margin of nearly 30 points.

Top four side Mandurah Magic will be hoping to bounce back from last week's thrashing from Willetton when they meet Western Stainless Stirling Senators, who sit just outside the top eight with a 3-6 record.

Metropolis Fremantle Cockburn Cougars have a golden chance to win consecutive games for the first time this season when they meet bottom two sides Rockingham and Southwest Slammers.

The Slammers will be looking to break their six-game losing streak with victories over Cockburn or Kalamunda Eastern Suns, who ended a run of four straight defeats with victory against Perth last week.
