Week Eight Power Players of the Week

Kalamunda Eastern Suns Centre Justin Brown has claimed his first PowerPlayer of the Week award of the season after guiding his 13th placed team to two upset wins over the weekend, downing top-8 sides Willetton and Perth on Friday and Saturday nights.

Brown received the honours over Lakeside Lightning Import Luke Payne to claim the Week Seven $50 voucher to PowerPlay Sports in Osborne Park.

The ex-Perth Wildcats and Brisbane Bullets player starred with 19 points, 11 rebounds while shooting at 72% from the field in the 98 - 76 win over the Tigers, and then backed it up the next night with a massive 20 points and 21 rebounds in the 107 – 91 win over the Redbacks.

Runner-Up Payne was equally impressive in his team’s two games, scoring 32 points in only 37 minutes in a 91 – 82 win over the Cougars, and then posted 37 points including five 3-pointers in the 94 – 85 defeat of the Flames the following night.

Kalamunda received the PowerPlayer of the Week double this week, with Women’s Guard Melissa Moyle claiming her first award of the season after leading her side to a 1-1 weekend, defeating Perth but coming up short against the undefeated Tigers.

Moyle edged out Western Stainless Stirling Senators Guard Rachel Watman, who also led her side to a 1 win/1 loss weekend, defeating the highly ranked Eagles but not being able to get over the line against Wanneroo.

Moyle was in great form with 23 points, four rebounds and four assists in only 24 minutes against the Tigers, and then scored 23 again in the confidence boosting 68 – 54 win over Perth the following night, along with five rebounds and three assists.

Watman was unlucky to miss out on the award, amassing 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the surprise 62 – 56 win over the Eagles, and then tried gallantly to pull the Senators to another win over the Wolves with 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
