Tigers roar past Hawks (Round Nine WSBL Wrap)

Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers recovered from their first loss of the season in perfect style, with victory in its women's State Basketball League top-of-the-table clash against Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks.

The Tigers saw their unbeaten start to the season ended at 10 games by Australian Central East Perth Eagles one week ago, but got back on track with a comfortable 81-66 win against the Hawks, the side they beat in last year's Grand Final.

Melissa Marsh (21 points and nine assists) and Jasmine Hooper (18 points) played crucial roles for Willetton, which is three wins clear in first spot, while Gabriella Clayton top-scored for Perry Lakes with 13 points.

But the Hawks bounced back with an 80-66 home victory against Metropolis Fremantle Cockburn Cougars, a win which ensured they finished round nine in second spot.

Perry Lakes held a double-digit lead for most of the second half and cruised home, thanks largely to Tanya Kelly's 19 points. Emma Pass had 26 points for the Cougars, who fell to seventh spot.

Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves' disappointing form continued with a 77-59 loss to Mandurah Magic.

The Wolves were in second spot just two weeks ago but defeats in four of their last five have seen them fall to sixth.

New import Hailey Dunham (22 points) helped the Magic consolidate their top four spot, while Whitney Perret had 16 points for the Wolves.

Kalamunda Eastern Suns took Wanneroo's place in the top four with comfortable victories against Rockingham Flames and Western Stainless Stirling Senators.

The Suns thrashed Rockingham 77-37, led by Melissa Moyle (15 points), before claiming their fourth consecutive win with a 78-67 result against the Senators, who have lost their last three.

Rockingham recovered to pick up its first win of the season, beating Southwest Slammers 76-62.

The Flames remain bottom on percentage, but Jacinta Bourne's 33 points led them to a much-needed victory and condemned the Slammers to their ninth consecutive loss.

East Perth is just one win outside the top four after beating Lakeside Lightning 67-63.

Samantha Norwood's 16 points helped the Eagles claim their second straight victory, while Lakeside has lost its last two.
