Lakeside on a roll (Friday Night Wrap)

Men's State Basketball League leaders Lakeside Lightning continued their dominant form in an 86-75 victory against Perry Lakes Hawks.

The Lightning are one game clear on top of the ladder after extending their winning streak to four games and handing the Hawks their second straight loss, which saw them drop out of the top four.

Lakeside, which has won nine of its past 10 games, had to overturn an 11-point deficit in the third quarter but outscored Perry Lakes 49-30 in the second half to win comfortably.

Ben Beran made just six of his 25 field goal attempts but still led Lakeside with 25 points, while fellow import Anthony Lee had 16 points before fouling out late in the game for the Hawks.

Stirling Senators gave their finals hopes a major boost and dealt a near-fatal blow to Rockingham Flames' chances of making the top eight with a 106-97 result.

The Senators have narrowly missed the finals three years in a row but are in a strong position to make the eight this season after they climbed up to seventh spot.

Michael Jones (27 points) helped Stirling overturn a deficit early in the fourth quarter and claim their seventh win of the season, while Jerel Allen had 29 points but couldn't stop 12th-placed Rockingham from slumping to its ninth loss from its past 10 games.

In women's action, Perry Lakes strengthened its grip on a top two spot with a comfortable 82-71 win against Lakeside.

Tegan Walker's 21 points helped the second-placed Hawks improve their win-loss record to 10-3, while the Lightning require a major turnaround to avoid missing the playoffs for only the second time since 2003.

And Stirling kept its slim finals hopes alive with a thrilling 65-63 win against Rockingham, led by Michelle Joy (20 points).
